Terms of Use
Last updated: October 4, 2026
By downloading or using Own AI you agree to these terms. Please read them before you use the app. How your data is handled is described in the Privacy Policy.
1. Licence
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Own AI on Apple devices you own or control, in line with these terms, the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions and the licensed-application terms Apple provides with the App Store, and all applicable laws. Apple’s standard end-user licence terms apply alongside this page, and where they conflict on a point Apple’s terms cover, Apple’s terms prevail.
The app’s source code is published separately under the GNU Affero General Public Licence v3.0 (github.com/tudorturcanu/OwnAI). That licence governs the source code. These terms govern your use of the app as distributed through the App Store.
2. AI output
Own AI uses machine-learning models, including models that run on your device and, if you choose it, Apple Intelligence. You understand and agree that:
- AI can state things that are wrong, made up or out of date, even when it sounds sure.
- Output may be incomplete, biased, misleading, offensive or unsuitable for your purpose.
- Document answers show their sources so you can check them, but you remain responsible for checking them, along with any maths, code or study material the app produces.
- Own AI is not professional advice of any kind, including legal, medical, financial, safety or compliance advice.
3. Your content
You keep all rights to what you write, import and create in the app. It is stored on your device, and we do not receive it. You are responsible for having the right to use any document, image or web page you give the app, and for how you use the output.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Own AI to:
- break any law or regulation, or infringe other people’s rights;
- create, spread or facilitate harmful, abusive, fraudulent or malicious content;
- circumvent, reverse engineer or interfere with the app’s purchase, entitlement or free-tier limits, except as the AGPL-3.0 source licence permits for the published source code;
- use it in a way that could harm the app, other people or third parties.
5. Models and third-party services
Own AI lets you download, import and search for models from third parties such as Hugging Face, and can use web search, web pages and Apple Intelligence. Each model carries its publisher’s licence, acceptable-use rules and privacy terms, and each service has its own terms. Those apply to your use of them, and you agree to read and follow them. We do not train, review or control third-party models and are not responsible for what they produce or for the availability of third-party services.
6. Purchases and free-tier limits
Own AI is free to download and may offer optional in-app purchases, including Own AI Pro. Billing, renewals, cancellations and refunds are handled by Apple under your App Store account; manage them in your Apple ID settings. What is included in the free and paid plans, and the free usage limits, may change from release to release.
7. Availability and requirements
Features depend on your device, iOS version, free storage, the models you have downloaded and the availability of Apple’s own features such as Apple Intelligence. Large models need considerable memory and may be slow or fail on older devices. We do not promise that every feature works on every device or stays available.
8. No warranty
To the fullest extent the law permits, Own AI is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted operation or freedom from errors. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law permits, Own AI and its developer are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, arising from your use of or inability to use the app, your reliance on AI output, third-party models or services, or feature limits. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including for intent or gross negligence, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
10. Ending or limiting access
You can stop using Own AI at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or limit access to the app or some of its features where needed for legal, technical, security or abuse-prevention reasons.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version on this page is the current one, and if you keep using Own AI after an update takes effect you accept the revised terms.
